When a European innovation platform was set to demonstrate a new project in the transportation sector in Sweden, an opportunity arose to invite the media—just one week before the event. Four PR was tasked with planning and executing the PR efforts surrounding the demonstration on very short notice, with the goal of generating maximum media visibility while ensuring that all project stakeholders received the right amount of exposure.
Background
The project was part of a European innovation collaboration in the field of sustainable transportation. The demonstration in Sweden was intended to showcase a new solution with the potential to transform how transportation operates in urban environments. The challenge was to generate media attention for the demonstration, while at the same time explaining the complex collaboration between multiple organizations. A particular PR challenge was ensuring that the innovation platform’s role as a project partner was clearly conveyed in media coverage—even though it was not the developer of the product being demonstrated.
Strategy
The strategy focused on quickly identifying relevant media outlets and formulating clear messages about the project’s significance and the collaboration among the stakeholders. By combining a strategic press release with targeted outreach to journalists, the conditions were created for both broad coverage and an accurate portrayal of the project’s various roles. The goal was to ensure that the demonstration’s newsworthiness—sustainable transportation of the future—remained the central focus, while also highlighting the client’s role in the innovation partnership.
Implementation
Four PR worked intensively during the week leading up to the demonstration and was responsible for:
- compiling media lists of relevant journalists and newsrooms
- drafting and distribution of a press release
- targeted outreach to selected journalists
- coordination of interviews and photo opportunities during the press screening
- support for project participants in messaging and interview situations
During the press preview itself, Four PR was on site to serve as the point of contact for the media and ensure that journalists had access to the right people, information, and visual materials.
Results
The press preview received coverage in several major media outlets, including radio, online, and print. In total, the initiative resulted in about ten media publications that highlighted both the project and the client’s role in the development of new transportation solutions. The project demonstrates how innovative transportation solutions can contribute to more sustainable and efficient transportation in urban environments—with the potential to reduce emissions and improve mobility in cities.
